Rick Soulodre RIP

I have some sad new to share, my older brother Rick passed away July 20, 2021. He was 67 years old. Rick along with his wife of over 40 years, Barb and their son Chris lived in Calgary. 

For the past 19 years he ran his own business handing over the reins to Chris in 2020. He worked hard to provide the best for Barb & Chris and for that I admire him.

Rick suffered an aneurysm. His son Chris found him at home and rushed him to the hospital where he went into emergency surgery. Before going into the OR Chris was able to spend a couple of minutes with his Dad to tell him that loved him. Rick didn’t come out of the anesthesia. 

How do you say goodbye to your big brother? Damned hard. 

Back when I was a teenager Rick showed me how to organize things in my life. He did so with humour and love. When I was 20 I was in a car accident and was in the hospital for a year. Rick would make the time once a week to come by and pay me a visit and keep my spirits up. He would often bring with him a pizza, a slider from Gondola (this is for the Winnipegers out there). He helped me get through a most difficult period in my life. Without him I am not sure how things may have turned out. 

Rest in peace Rick.

The funeral was in Calgary.

J’ai une triste nouvelle à partager: mon frère aîné Rick est décédé le 20 juillet 2021.      
Il avait 67 ans. Il vivait à Calgary avec sa femme Barb (plus de 40 ans de marriage)        
et leur fils Chris.

Au cours des 19 dernières années, il a dirigé sa propre entreprise et l’a cédé à Chris en 2020. Il a travaillé très fort pour soutenir sa femme et son fils. Je l’admire pour cela.

Rick a subi une rupture d’anévrisme. Son fils Chris l’a trouvé à la maison et l’a emmené d’urgence à l’hopital où il a été opéré immédiatement. Avant d’aller au bloc, Chris a pu passer quelques minutes avec son père pour lui dire qu’il l’aimait. Rick n’est pas sorti des effets de l’anesthésie.

Comment dire adieu à son grand frère? C’est difficile.

Quand j’étais ado Rick m’a montré comment organiser mes affaires. À 20 ans j’étais dans un accident de voiture qui m’a cloué sur un lit d’hopital pendant un an. Rick passait chaque semaine pour me faire une visite et me booster le moral. Souvent il rapportait une pizza, un slider depuis Gondola (ceci c’est pour les Winnipegois). Il m’a aidé à franchir cette période très difficile dans ma vie. Il m’a beaucoup encouragé.
